I must confess, I've always wondered what this portion of Psalm 22 meant. I thought "He anoints my head with oil" was abusive language for God to preserve the health of the psalmist. I did not know this painting. Anoint my head with oil... Sheep can get their heads stuck in thorns and die trying to get rid of them. There are creepy little flies that like to torture sheep by laying eggs in their nostrils that turn into worms and cause them to hit their heads against a stone, sometimes even to death. Their ears and eyes are also susceptible to painful insects. Then the shepherd anoints their entire heads with oil. They do find peace. This oil creates a protective barrier against the evil that seeks to destroy sheep. Do you have moments of anxiety? Anxious thoughts keep invading your mind? Are you bumping your head against a wall trying to stop them? Have you ever asked God to anoint your head with oil? He has an endless supply! His oil protects and enables you to channel your heart, mind and gaze on Him today and always! There is peace in the valley! May our good Father anoint your head with oil today so that your cup will overflow with blessings! God is good and faithful! ( By Scott Leak )
