Australia will pay people to give back their guns after the Bondi Beach shooting killed 15 people.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the government will buy back guns from citizens in the largest program since 1996.
The government will purchase surplus, newly banned, and illegal firearms from people. Albanese says, “The terrible events at Bondi show we need more guns off our streets.”
Australia will mark one week since the mass shooting with a national day of reflection on December 21, with Australians urged to light candles at 6:47 PM.
Sajid Akram and his son Naveed are accused of killing 15 people in an antisemitic attack, Australia’s deadliest mass shooting since Port Arthur in 1996.
